By now, we all know the purpose of the golden thread and the necessity to have the right information to understand a building and the steps needed to keep the building – and critically the people occupying it- safe.
We’ve got a but coming… and it’s a very big but (and I cannot lie)...
What we must remember is that, for the golden thread to hold, we need to empower and trust the people who are left to manage it, and ensure they are remunerated accordingly in line with the importance of stewarding a company through the process.
These people are not just filing documents – they are in essence custodians of a project’s memory and future. And more often than not, this weight is falling on the shoulders of some great friends in that industry that fall within information management / document control. And on this, I am determined to make sure they get the recognition they deserve.
My prediction is that we are about to see these incredible individuals be valued more than ever (most likely, financially) to reflect their true importance - Because without them, the golden thread will quickly unravel.
